StoryCast - Privacy Policy

Effective Date: July 18, 2026

StoryCast ("the App") is a privacy-focused audiobook player for iOS with optional iCloud Sync and Audiobookshelf server integration. This policy explains our data practices.

NO DATA COLLECTION BY US

We DO NOT collect, store, or transmit any personal information or usage data to our servers. The App does not include analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs.

What We Don't Collect:

Personal identifiers (name, email, address)
Device identifiers (UDID, advertising ID)
Location data
Usage analytics or telemetry
Audio content metadata
Contact information
Payment information

LOCAL DATA STORAGE

By default, data associated with the App remains on your device:

Audiobook files (imported by you)
Playback progress and settings
Library organization (folders, bookmarks)
App preferences

This data is stored locally using iOS's standard storage mechanisms (File System and SwiftData).

OPTIONAL ICLOUD SYNC

If you explicitly enable Sync Imported Library in Settings, StoryCast uses Apple's CloudKit service to store supported data in your private iCloud database:

Locally imported audiobook files and cover art
Book metadata, custom folders, and chapters
Playback position and related sync records

Audiobookshelf libraries, server addresses, credentials, streamed items, and downloaded Audiobookshelf cache files are not included in iCloud Sync. StoryCast does not receive this iCloud data on developer-operated servers. Turning the feature off pauses synchronization but does not delete data already stored in iCloud.

AUDIOBOOKSHELF INTEGRATION

StoryCast can optionally connect to your self-hosted Audiobookshelf server. This feature is entirely user-initiated and controlled:

Your Server, Your Data: Audiobookshelf is self-hosted software. Any data exchanged is between your device and your own server.
Optional Feature: You can use StoryCast entirely offline with locally imported audiobooks.
Credentials Stored Locally: Server credentials are stored securely on your device using iOS Keychain and are never transmitted elsewhere.
No Proxy: Connections to your Audiobookshelf server are direct; StoryCast does not act as an intermediary.

NETWORK CONNECTIVITY

Network access is used for features you choose to use:

iCloud Sync: To synchronize your imported library through your private Apple iCloud account (optional and user-controlled)
Audiobookshelf Server: To sync your library and stream audiobooks from your own server (user-initiated)
AirPlay: To stream audio to AirPlay-compatible devices (user-controlled)
Import: Importing audiobook files from cloud storage providers (user-initiated)

The app does not make any network requests to third-party servers for analytics, advertising, or tracking purposes.

YOUR CONTROL OVER DATA

You have complete control over your data:

Delete Files: Remove audiobooks at any time via the App's interface
Clear Local Data: Uninstalling the App removes its local app data; data previously synchronized to iCloud may remain in your iCloud account
Pause iCloud Sync: Turn off Sync Imported Library at any time without affecting Audiobookshelf
No Accounts: The App does not require user accounts or registration
Disconnect Servers: You can remove any Audiobookshelf server connection at any time

THIRD-PARTY SERVICES

StoryCast does not integrate with third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. Optional external services are Apple iCloud for private library synchronization and any Audiobookshelf server that you configure and control. Apple's handling of iCloud is governed by Apple's terms and privacy policies.

CHILDREN'S PRIVACY

Since we collect no data, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The App is safe for all ages.

CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

We may update this Privacy Policy as the App evolves. Any changes will be reflected in updated documentation.

Because we don't collect data, there is no mechanism for data access requests, corrections, or deletions beyond what you can do directly in the App.

APP STORE PRIVACY LABELS

In App Store Connect, we declare:

Data Not Collected: All categories (Health & Fitness, Financial Info, etc.)
Purpose: No purpose as no data is collected by us

ACKNOWLEDGMENT

By using StoryCast, you acknowledge that optional iCloud Sync and Audiobookshelf connections are features under your control. StoryCast does not operate an intermediary server for either feature.
